Privacy policy
Protecting your personal data is important to us. Below, we explain which data is processed when you visit birkenwald.at and use our services. This information also applies to our preview website, which is provided using the same technical setup.
1. Controller and contact details

Andreas-Hofer-Straße 606

Telephone: +43 5212 6060

If you have questions about data protection or wish to exercise your rights, you can contact us using these details.
The reception team processes bookings on behalf of the respective apartment owners. Your contracting party for accommodation is the respective accommodation provider. Additional information about data processing in connection with your specific accommodation arrangement is available from that provider or through reception.
2. Domain, email and website delivery
Hosttech
We use Hosttech to manage our domain and provide our email mailboxes. For email communication, the email service processes the sender, recipient, message and connection data required for delivery and storage. The purposes and legal bases for handling enquiries are set out in section 3.
Further information: https://www.hosttech.at/datenschutz/
Cloudflare
The files for this website are stored with and delivered by Cloudflare. This is separate from the domain and email mailbox management provided by Hosttech. We use services provided by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.
When you access our website, Cloudflare processes the connection data required to transmit and deliver the content. This may include, in particular:
- IP address
- date and time of access
- requested pages and files
- browser and operating system information
- the previously visited page, if transmitted by your browser
- technical information about the connection and possible errors
Processing serves to provide our website, maintain its stability and security, and prevent abusive access. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the reliable and secure operation of our website.
Cloudflare operates internationally. Personal data may be processed outside the European Economic Area, particularly in the USA. Information about Cloudflare’s safeguards for international data transfers and its processing of personal data is available at:
https://www.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-customer-dpa/
https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
3. Contact and enquiries
If you contact us by email or telephone, we process the data you provide to handle your enquiry. This includes, in particular, your name, contact details and message content.
For booking enquiries, we may also process travel dates, the requested apartment, the number of guests and the ages of accompanying children.
Processing is carried out to take steps prior to entering into a contract or to perform a contract under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. We handle other enquiries based on our legitimate interest in responding to your contact under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The email enquiry function on our website opens a prepared message in your own email application. The information it contains is only transmitted to us when you send that message.
Where necessary to handle your enquiry or booking, relevant information is passed on to the respective apartment accommodation provider.
4. Apartment searches and bookings through Seekda
We use Seekda services to display our apartments, prices and availability. This establishes connections to servers including widget-bf.seekda.com and hbe-api.seekda.com.
When the embedded offers are loaded, technically necessary connection data, such as your IP address, browser information and the time of the request, is transmitted to the servers involved.
When you carry out a search, the following information in particular is processed to identify suitable offers:
- arrival and departure dates
- number of apartments
- number of adults and children
- where applicable, the ages of accompanying children
- selected search filters
Your specific search and booking enquiry is processed to take steps prior to entering into a contract under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. The general overview of offers is technically provided based on our legitimate interest in presenting our accommodation under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. These legal bases do not cover any additional analytics or advertising functions that require consent.
Booking links take you to the booking process at birkenwald.officialbookings.com. Selected travel dates and occupancy details may be included in the destination URL.
During the booking process, the contact, guest and booking details you provide are processed to handle your reservation. The privacy information in the booking system also applies to concluding and carrying out a booking.
The condominium owners’ association (WEG) is Seekda’s contractual partner. Reception handles bookings on behalf of the respective apartment accommodation provider. Necessary contact, stay and booking details are also processed in the Winhotel hotel management software to manage reservations, provide guest services and handle billing.
The legal bases are Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for initiating and performing the accommodation contract and Article 6(1)(c) GDPR where statutory obligations apply.
Further information about Seekda is available at:
https://seekda.com/privacy-policy/
5. Fonts and images
Locally delivered content
The Arimo and Hurricane fonts, our logo and many images are delivered together with our website. No connection to Google Fonts is established for these fonts.
Adobe Fonts
We use Adobe Fonts to display the Roca typeface. The font is loaded from use.typekit.net.
When the font is requested, Adobe receives, in particular, your IP address and technical information about the font project used and the requesting website. According to Adobe, no cookies are set when Adobe Fonts is provided, and the IP address is not stored.
This integration serves to present our website in a consistent and appealing way. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the consistent typographic design of our website.
Processing outside the European Economic Area is possible. Further information about processing and the transfer mechanisms provided by Adobe is available at:
https://www.adobe.com/privacy/policies/adobe-fonts.html
Externally loaded images
Some apartment photographs are loaded from res.cloudinary.com in connection with the Seekda integration.
When external images are requested, the respective providers receive technically necessary connection data, particularly your IP address, the time of the request and browser information.
Processing serves to present our accommodation and the holiday region. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is to provide informative illustrations of our offering.
Further information is available at:
https://cloudinary.com/privacy
6. Google reviews via Trustindex
We display publicly available Google reviews through the Trustindex service provided by Trustindex Ltd., Hungary.
The integration is blocked by default. It is only loaded when you enable reviews in our privacy settings, select “Accept all” or click the corresponding activation button beside the content. Simply scrolling to the reviews does not activate them.
Any preview image displayed before activation is delivered with our website and does not itself establish a connection to Trustindex or Google.
After your consent, the widget is loaded from cdn.trustindex.io. Trustindex receives technical data such as your IP address, browser information, the requested resource and the time of the request. Additional content and services may be loaded within the widget, whose providers also receive connection data.
Cookies or similar technologies may be used. Processing outside the European Economic Area is also possible.
The legal basis for this optional integration is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Where non-essential information is stored on or accessed from your device, this additionally requires your consent under section 165(3) of the Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021 (TKG 2021).
You can withdraw your consent at any time through “Privacy settings” at the bottom of the page. Data transfers that have already taken place cannot be reversed. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.
Further information is available at:

7. Region Seefeld: events, tours, maps, mountain pastures and other regional content
On the homepage and the Seefeld page, we offer events, suggested tours, information about mountain pastures, huts and other destinations, and interactive maps of the Seefeld region. The provider of this regional content is Tourismusverband Seefeld, Bahnhofplatz 115, 6100 Seefeld, Austria. It is embedded through widgets.seefeld.com and maps.seefeld.com.
This content is blocked by default. It is only loaded when you select “Accept all”, enable Region Seefeld content in the privacy settings or click the activation button beside the respective content. Your consent applies to the embeds grouped under Region Seefeld content. Consent to Google reviews is independent of this.
The preview images shown before activation are delivered with our website. Displaying them alone does not establish a connection to the widget provider.
After activation, the provider receives, in particular, your IP address, browser and device information, the time of the request and the requested resource. During use, your selected search and filter details, such as dates, location or tour category, are also processed to display results. Our website’s language setting is used to select the language version of the widgets.
Additional map, image and technical services may be loaded within the embedded content. Further recipients may receive connection data, and cookies or similar technologies may be used. Processing outside the European Economic Area is possible.
The legal basis for loading optional content is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Section 165(3) TKG 2021 also applies to non-essential storage on or access to your device.
You can withdraw this consent at any time through “Privacy settings” at the bottom of the page. The embeds are then removed and remain blocked on subsequent visits. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn. Data already transmitted cannot be retrieved by withdrawing consent; you can also delete any stored third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Further information from the provider: https://www.seefeld.com/de/datenschutz.html
8. Privacy settings and browser storage
Our privacy settings let you decide whether optional external content may be loaded. Consent for reviews and regional content can be given independently.
You can use the website without agreeing to this optional content. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time through “Privacy settings” at the bottom of the page.
Storing your privacy choice
Your choice is stored under the key “birkenwald-privacy-v2” in your browser’s local storage for 180 days. The entry contains the permissions granted, the settings version and the expiry date. No individual user identifier is assigned.
This storage is necessary to respect your privacy choice and apply it on subsequent page visits. It is carried out under section 165(3) TKG 2021 and based on our legitimate interest in reliably implementing your choice under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Once the storage period expires or you delete the website data in your browser, optional content is blocked again.
Language preference
Your selected language is stored under “birkenwald-language” in your browser’s local storage. This allows us to display the website in your preferred language on subsequent visits.
The entry remains until the website data is deleted. Storage serves your chosen language preference and is carried out under section 165(3) TKG 2021.
Analytics and advertising
Our own website does not contain Google Analytics or a Meta Pixel installed by us. This is separate from possible functions of external services loaded after your consent or as part of the integrations described separately.
9. External links and Google Maps
Our website contains links to external services, for example Region Seefeld, transport operators and Google Maps.
The directions map is an image delivered with our website. Google Maps only opens when you click the corresponding link.
When you visit an external website, its provider processes data according to its own privacy information. Our privacy policy does not apply to your subsequent use of those external services.
10. Retention periods
We store personal data only for as long as necessary for the respective processing purpose.
Enquiry data is retained to handle the enquiry and, where applicable, to perform the subsequent contract. Data is retained for longer where statutory retention obligations apply or it is needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
The data is then deleted or anonymised.
For embedded services, retention periods also depend on the respective provider’s processing. Information is available in the linked privacy notices. The retention periods for the browser storage entries used by our website are described in section 8.
11. Your rights
Subject to the statutory requirements, you have the right to:
- access your personal data
- have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed
- have your data erased
- restrict processing
- data portability
- object to certain processing
Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before consent was withdrawn.
Right to object: Where processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object to that processing on grounds relating to your particular situation.
To exercise your rights, please contact info@birkenwald.at.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Austria, this is:
